Privacy Policy

Tonight NYC ("the app") is operated by Jacob HL as a free utility for browsing NYC comedy lineups. This page explains what data the app does and doesn't collect.

Using Tonight NYC without an account

What stays on your device

Optional account and sync

You can sign in with Apple, Google, or a six-digit code sent to your email. Apple and Google provide a stable account identifier and verified email address (which may be an Apple private relay address); email-code sign-in uses your address and an internal identity record. We store the applicable identifier, email address, basic account timestamps, session, and your synced favorites, ratings, and app settings. You can link supported sign-in methods to one account; we use this data only to provide and secure your account and keep your setup consistent across devices.

A secure, HttpOnly session cookie keeps you signed in. Synced data is hosted by Vercel and Upstash, our infrastructure providers. You can sign out at any time. Settings → Account → Delete account permanently removes the account record and synced data from our servers; the local copy on your current device remains unless you reset it separately.

Analytics

The tonightnyc.com website uses privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics, including a self-hosted Umami instance, to count aggregate page views and product actions such as opening a venue, map, or ticket link. These events contain only a short venue label, not the show title or your identity. The mobile app is a wrapper around this same website, so the same cookieless analytics apply inside the app; the opt-out below turns them off there too.

You can turn off self-hosted analytics in this browser. The choice stays on this device until you clear Tonight NYC's browser data.

External data sources

The app displays publicly available comedy lineup data fetched from venues including the Comedy Cellar. Your device fetches these listings directly from our static JSON endpoints (prebaked nightly). No identifying information is attached to those requests beyond what your browser or mobile operating system sends by default.

Shareable preference URLs

If you tap the Share button in the app to share your favorites list, a URL is generated containing your preferences encoded in the link. This URL is only sent to recipients you choose (via the system share sheet or clipboard). We do not receive a copy or log these shares.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will reflect that. Material changes will be reflected in the app's release notes on the App Store and Google Play.
